Our usual Wednesday evening in The Parlor includes several conversations going on at the same time, with a few stories that every one hears. March 25th was a unique Wednesday in The Parlor. It’s amazing what bits of scrap yarn can bring when shared. God works in wonderful ways.
Barbara asked during dinner in the Family Center if we had any scrap yarn that the Honduras mission group could use for name tags next year. We assured her we did and would gladly share. Barbara came in and told us wonderful, moving stories about this year’s mission trip to Honduras and the children she worked with in Bible study. Everyone was touched, amused and amazed by the stories.
As we sorted out the yarn and squares left to be made for the Hoskyn’s baby blanket, Dana and Barbara talked about the rigors, the trials, and the joys gained from the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure which is coming up again soon. Both of them are veterans of this event. Since many of the shawls and blankets we create wind up comforting those who have cancer, it was great to hear the stories of those who work to support the research for finding a cure.
Our church is a missional church at all levels, working in our community, nationally, and internationally, supporting organizations and individuals needing help and showing God’s love face-to-face.
The baby blanket squares will be done by April 1st and can be sewn together and edged by April 8th. We can then discuss the best way to get the baby blanket and the two fleece blankets to the Hoskyns after the 8th.
Even though we’re going in to summer, this is a good time to continue work on scarves for the Grace bags. We have plenty of yarn in The Parlor for scarves, and several patterns in the dresser.
Ellen came in with her new hairdo which looked great! Congratulations. Her hair is finally long enough to show off without a wig.
Lawrenceville Co-Op is counting on us for help to keep their shelves stocked. Please remember to bring a can of food, a bag of beans, or box of grits next Wednesday.
Love and blessings,
Beverly

Update March 18th
Praise be to God! We meet each Wednesday in The Parlor to fellowship, laugh, pray and share with one another as we work on our shawls, afghans, chemo hats, baby hats, scarves, and other projects. The last several weeks we’ve talked about how we’ve grown in terms of new members. It occurred to me this morning, during Davis’s sermon about being a missional church, how many more lives we are touching with our projects. Thanks to new members, the ideas and energy they’ve brought to the Prayer Shawl Ministry, we offer chemo hats to individuals who lose their hair during chemo therapy, baby hats to MOPS members, and scarves for the Grace bags.
New Baby: As most of you know, Sophia was born on March 17th which was several weeks early. By Wednesday the 25th all of the large blocks for the afghan will be complete. All of the small blocks of the #1 design will be complete and 1 of block #2, 3, and 4 are complete. Please bring your completed blocks and any yarn you have on the 25th.
That leaves three of blocks 2, 3 and 4 to be completed. Please contact me if you have the time to complete any of these blocks so I can arrange to get the correct yarn colors to you. Once these blocks are crocheted, the pieces need to be sewn together and the edging crocheted around the blocks. I will volunteer to assemble the blocks and complete the edging.
The fleece blankets for the boys are done.
Robin’s Granddaughter: Robin has a new granddaughter named Cadence, born on March 17th, weighing 10 lbs., 13 ozs. Robin and her family are in our thoughts and prayers. Children are a blessing from God!
Thank you: My daughter Liz enjoyed meeting everyone Wednesday evening. She thinks I’m blessed to be part of such a wonderful ministry. As she left the meeting, she told me she was going to learn to crochet before she comes back, so she doesn’t have to say she doesn’t know how on her next visit. Thank you for welcoming her!
Lawrenceville Co-Op: Robin reminded us that this Wednesday the Co-Op is in need of personal items such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. Please remember to bring something for the Co-Op.
God is opening more and more doors for us to be His hands and feet to help those in need. He is leading us to interact with other ministries and committees. Let’s keep our minds open to ideas and ways we can help others. We were given a talent to turn fiber into useful items – let’s make the most of it.
Love and blessings,
Beverly

March 11th Prayer Shawl Ministry Update
It was another wonderful night of blessings in The Parlor. Every Wednesday I think “this is the best Wednesday we’ve had so far”, only to have a better one the following week! Thank you for all you do to give glory to God.
Thank you card: Dana’s mother sent a beautiful thank you card for the Prayer blanket she received that had the just a “touch of orange” in it. She included a donation to purchase yarn so we can make another one to ease “the loneliness” for someone else in the future. What a wonderful gesture.
Hoskyn’s Update: We have two large squares and four small squares for the Hoskyn’s baby afghan. The fleece has been donated for the boy’s blankets. Lisa is going to finish the edges of the fleece blankets. Two of the remaining large squares are being worked on by Dana and Carleen, and Lisa is working on one of the small squares. A total of five large squares and twenty small squares are needed to complete the baby afghan. Good progress is being made on our project.
Baby Hats: It was decided a baby hat would be given to the each of the mothers of MOPS when they have their babies. The next delivery date is in May and we’re ready for that baby!
Special Donation: Teresa donated an afghan and a shawl that were her Grandmother’s to be given to someone else in need of God’s love and strength. God will know who will benefit from these items and make sure they go to loving hands. Thank you, Teresa.
New Member: You’ll notice in the e-mail list that we have a new member – Marilyn. She will be a contributing member for a while because she’s having hip surgery. As she recovers, we hope she’ll have an opportunity to join us and share her ideas with us. Please welcome Marilyn to our group.
Special Prayers: Please keep Sue and Don in your prayers.
Yarn, Yarn, and More Yarn: Thank you for sorting the yarn last night. We are blessed to have five bins of yarn to use for shawls, scarves, and afghans of all shapes and sizes. The yarn is beautiful, sorted by type, and by color. We even have a Christmas mix of reds and greens. There is a baby mix, baby yarn – lots of cream color. Please check the bins before you purchase yarn.
Yarn Inventory: Ellen has an inventory of the yarn that she’s going to put on a computer form and send to us via e-mail so we’ll know what’s available to use. With Robin’s creative touch, there are beautiful color combinations already put together.
Thanks to Davis’s sermon last week, it occurred to me why the Prayer Shawl Ministry is so calming and important to me. Davis said another word for Worship is therapeuo (if I remember right, that’s a Greek word). That word is the base word for therapy. This ministry is therapy and worship at the same time and a way to practice Agape love with the members of the Ministry and the recipients of our work. God has provided a wonderful opportunity for “such a time as this”.
Love and blessings,
Beverly

Marching into Wednesdays in the Parlor
Hi ladies,
I hope you’re enjoying your weekend and looking forward to making a snowman later in the day! There are just a few updates and congratulations since we didn’t meet on the 25th.
Congratulations: The Hannah Circle recognized the dedication of one of our members, Alida, who has crocheted and sewn almost 50 prayer shawls and blankets for the prayer blanket and prayer shawl ministry. She was recognized at the November luncheon of the Hannah Circle and her picture was in the last issue of The Messenger. Alida contributes several shawls each month that are brought in by members of her circle. Thanks Alida. We appreciate you and your hard work!
Happy Birthday: Whitney has a birthday on March 6th. When you see Whitney please wish her Happy Birthday.
New Member: Shirley is a new member of our group who is unable to attend our meetings on a regular basis due to scheduling conflicts, but will be contributing items. If you know Shirley, please welcome her to our group.
The Project: Yarn for the baby afghan has been donated with a little extra for booties or a cap.
It has been suggested that caps or hats can be made for the boys. Another suggestion has been made that the boys receive a fleece blanket. Jo-Anne’s has fleece on sale right now so the younger son could have a Disney print and the older son a blanket in his school colors. We can finalize our plans on Wednesday.
Crocheted Hair Hats: Ellen is going to teach us to make hair hats for people going through chemo treatments. She will have some of the yarn from Jo-Anne’s with her on Wednesday.
Crochet Lessons: Wednesday is the first Wednesday of the month, so we will teach crocheting for any one wishing to learn.
True Confessions: I am so afraid something I type will wind up in one of “The Bloopers” from church bulletins that go around in e-mails so if you see something like that, just tell me. Please don’t send it to every one you know. Those are so embarrassingly funny!
Love and Blessings,
Beverly
